SteriLam Anti-Microbial Films

SteriLam Anti-Microbial films are safe and contain an invisible and odourless ingredient – Biomaster – which is based on Silver-ion technology and inhibits the growth of microbes by up to 99.99%. The films inhibit growth of bacteria, fungi, and moulds including antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE).

SteriLam is formulated with an active ingredient that is effective against SARSCoV-2 causing Covid-19 as well as general bacteria.

Jet Technologies can confirm that external testing conducted in Europe to ISO standards has concluded that SteriLam films have benefits in actively limiting or eliminating COVID19, other viruses and microbes on their surface.

The below statement applies to the following products / Jet Technologies codes:

BOPPGSL: SteriLam Gloss BOPP laminate (15um)

BOPPMSL: SteriLam Matt BOPP laminate (15um)

SAMGSL: SteriLam Gloss BOPP thermal laminate (24um)

SAMMSL: SteriLam Matt BOPP thermal laminate (27um)

 

Antiviral properties:

Virus used for testing: Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (cause of the COVID-19 pandemic).

Tests carried out by independent laboratory, according to ISO 21702 on antiviral activity of plastic surfaces and other non-porous surfaces.

Results:

The trial showed a reduction in viral load (SARSCoV-2) of 84.15% when compared to a regular film that does not contain the active ingredient used in film F138. The trials were conducted in laboratory conditions (25°C, 90% Relative Humidity, 24 hours).

The same active ingredient has been used in the listed products mentioned in this statement.

 

Antibacterial properties:

Bacteria used for testing: MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and E-Coli (Escherichia Coli).

Tests carried out by independent laboratory, according to ISO 22196 on antibacterial activity of plastic surfaces and other non-porous surfaces.

Results:

Tests have shown that after 24 hours there is a reduction of more than 99% of bacteria on its surface. The choice of these two bacteria for these tests is because they are two bacteria that affect humans differently and with commonly differentiated transmission pathways.

 

Anti-fungal and anti-mold properties:

The biocidal properties of the additives used for the manufacture of Derprosa Antimicrobial and the manufacturing process itself allow positive results to be inferred from the anti-fungal and anti-mold qualities, although the necessary tests have not yet been carried out to determine the degree of effectiveness.

 

Additional Comments 

The active ingredient in SteriLam films is embedded into the film and is stable for many years under normal processing activities used in the use of the films. Should the surface of the film be covered (for example with foil stamping, UV varnishes…etc), then that portion of the surface will have a reduced effect. For those reasons we would not recommend large areas be covered as the effectiveness of the film will be proportionally reduced.
